JackieO’s: Paradise In Mykonos

When I travel, I always say I like to explore new places, embrace the native culture, and experience life like the locals.  Well depending on who you are, visiting Mykonos in the month of August, the culture can be one of glitz, glamour and partying or relaxation by the water.  JackieO’s provides both and, thankfully, I’m always up for good food, good wine, beaches and a good party vibe.

JackieO Beach Club was launched in 2013 and sits at the west end of Super Paradise Beach.  Before you enter, you hear the sounds of R&B or electronica thumping from inside.  JackieO’ isn’t one of those places where you have to make a reservation days in advance.  You can simply show up, get good food, good drinks, and have a good time.

The decor is chic, pristine, and minimalistic, incorporating Cycladic white washed cement and stone, consistent with the homes found in the Cyclades Islands.  The club also boasts a large open circular bar to serve up cocktails, a large swimming pool to take a dip, a jacuzzi to relax, and lounge areas to enjoy some downtime.  They host a regular selection of international DJs, as well as, events and festivals throughout the year.  Stick around until 7pm and checkout the sunset drag shows starring JackieO’ resident Priscilla.

JackieO’ also features a 170-seat restaurant ran by by Greek celebrity chef Christoforos Peskias.  The cuisine is a blend of traditional Cycladic flavours with a fusion of eastern and western cuisine resulting in some creative presentations and tasty option.  There’s certainly no lack of food options and, personally, I think the restaurant boasts some of the best food on the island.

As a starter, I would recommend the Peruvian potato salad and salmon.  After that, I would also recommend the Salmon, meatballs, beetroot with cucumber and yogurt sauce.  This dish is actually large enough to serve two.  I found the staff to be extremely knowledgable about the cuisine, as I didn’t know much about Greek cuisine.  They were also very attentive, ensuring that whenever my wine ran low, it was quickly refilled.  What more can you ask for?

Because the island sits on one of the most beautiful lagoons on the island, it boast a spectacular view of the old port and beach below.   The view at sunset is truly amazing.  If you were looking for that Instagram shot, here it is.  After a hearty meal, make your way down to the beach from JackieO’ and you will find about 75 sunbeds to choose from.  Prices are dependent on how close you want to be to the water.

Once you select a sunbed, you’re greeted with a glass of Veuve, a large bottle of water and towel.  There are also solar powered charging outlets at each sunbed to keep your devices powered up while you enjoy the day.  The water at the beach is is clear and a beautiful shade of blue, perfect for taking the perfect Instagram photo.  R&B and electronica continue to play, continuing the chill and relaxed vibe on the beach.

Apparently the crowd varies from day to day.  While I was there, there was a mix of singles, couples, and families from all over the globe.  Conversation with strangers is inevitable and a reminder of why it’s fun to travel to faraway places.

JackieO’ is also available to host private events.  Guests can block off parts of the beach, restaurant or pool for private evets.  Moreover, they are home to a private beach chapel that can be booked for for weddings and more.  The restaurant offers set menus for groups of over 15 that are perfect for a variety of events including birthdays, anniversaries, bachelor
parties and weddings.  The beach club  also has a private pier offering a free transfer service to collect and drop off boats too large to approach the pier.  They can also be deliver food to boats anchored in the bay or moored at the pier.

I recommend JackieO’ to everyone who wants a nice beach vibe, delicious cuisine, great music and a fun crowd surrounding you. It’s great for everyone – couples, families, and friends.  The restaurant serves up delicious fare with attentive service.  Both the pool and beach alike offer places by the water to kick back and relax and enjoy a dip.  Stop by today.  You’ll be glad you did.
