Misutura: Sushi, Ceviche And More…

There are certain places where I’m wary of trying certain foods. For example, I’d be a bit apprehensive to try a soul food restaurant while traveling through Ireland. For a long time, I had this same perception about trying Sushi, in Colombia. For whatever reason, my brain just couldn’t relate this country with this dish.

Enter Misutura Restaurant. They serve up Peruvian and Japanese fusion dishes, including sushi! They have a few locations to choose from in Medellin, including Poblado, Laurales, and Envigado. We decided to check out their Laurales location near the Primer Parque Laurales and see what they had to offer.

The Vibe

We arrived for lunch around 12:30 and they were just opening up, giving us full choice of where we wanted to be seated. Part of the restaurant is exposed to the outdoors so we opted to sit by the window and get those fresh breezes on a hot day.

The place definitely has a chic vibe to it. There was a mix of pop and latin music playing in the background. I was quite surprised to hear Maroon 5, Beyonce, and even Migos in between my favorite salsa and reggaeton jams.

The Food

The menu at Misutura offers a LOT of options. Even if sushi isn’t your thing, there are tons of other dishes to choose from.

We began with the Buns Mary Tierra as an appetizer for $12.900 Colombian Pesos ($4.15 USD). These are 3 slider sized pork dishes with a homemade barbecue sauce served on buns. They were absolutely delicious! I wanted to order another plate but decided against it because we had a lot more food to go.

Next up was the Pescado Parrillero for $38.900 Colombian Pesos ($12.50 USD). This dish consisted of 2 fillets of white fish, grilled veggies with spinach all served over humus. Reading the description alone already had my mouth watering. The fish was very flavorful, tasted fresh and was cooked very well. It also comes with a side of yummy Chimichurri Mustard.

The word on the street is that Misutura serves up a good civiche so we decided to give the Civiche Fusion a try for $39.900 Colombian Pesos ($11.87 USD). The acid balance was perfect and you taste the delicious blend of flavors within. The Civiche Fusion consisted of kanikami, langosto, salmon, tuna, japanese mayo, lemon, avocado, onions and corn. In addition to the flavorful taste, the presentation was impressive as well.

Last but certainly not least, was, you guessed it, the sushi. Misutura offers 20 sushi options, with vegetarian choices as well. We opted for the Sushi Natural for $31.900 Colombian Pesos ($10.26 USD). This consisted of smoked salmon, tuna, and white fish rolls. Simply put, the rolls were fantastic. They were flavorful and , to my surprise filling, which is something I rarely say about sushi. If I hadn’t I already eaten so much, I’d have definitely ordered more.

Drinks

Misutura’s drink menu ranges from freshly made juices to wines and sangrias. I opted for a Lemonada de Lychee, which I’d never had before. It was delicious and very refreshing on such a hot day.

They also offer a fully stocked bar if you’re looking for something a bit stronger. With a selection of vodkas, whiskey, gin, and tequilla’s, they’re certainly sure to have what you’re looking for.

Final Thoughts

After leaving here, I had to have a long talk with myself for having missed out on sushi in Colombia for so long. Misutura serves up some great dishes and relaxing atmosphere at some great prices. It’s great for date night, lunch with friends, or dining solo. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in Medellin.
